Fund for Women to honor Debra Quinton May 25 with Driving Force Award

Development and outreach efforts support program goals
May 13, 2022

The Fund for Women at the Delaware Community Foundation recently announced the selection of Debra Quinton as the recipient of its 2022 Driving Force Award.

This honor is presented annually to a founder or FFW group that has gone above and beyond in moving FFW forward to achieve its mission. Quinton will receive the award at the Fund for Women Annual Grant Awards Dinner to be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 25, at Delaware Technical Community College Terry Campus in Dover. Doors open at 5 p.m., and registration is required; go to fundforwomende.com to reserve seats.

This event is a celebration of the work Fund for Women does year-round to raise and distribute funds to Delaware nonprofits that help empower women and girls in Delaware.

Quinton has been a Fund for Women founder since 2015. A native of Mount Vernon, N.Y., she graduated with a master’s degree in dental hygiene from the University of Maryland,
Baltimore in 1979 and taught at the University of Maryland in the dental hygiene program. But eventually she traded in her hygiene license and teaching career for the creativity and love of graphic design. While learning on the job, Quinton advanced through the ranks as copy editor, copywriter, designer and production manager working for well-known agencies in the Baltimore metro area. This led to being her own boss as the owner of It’s A Snap Design in 1989. She has won numerous awards, including from the Public Relations Society of America, for her graphic design work for Maryland Public Television. Quinton’s portfolio and client list ranges from small start-ups to large local and nationally known corporations.

Since moving to Delaware and joining Fund for Women with her wife Kelly Sheridan, Quinton has donated many hours of her talent to the Fund for Women Sussex County Development Committee; she enjoys creating fun and artistic designs for founders. Among her proudest moments were creating the design for the fund's 25th anniversary celebration year, and decorating the ballroom at Baywood Greens in 2018 for the Silver Anniversary Gala. Her passion and enthusiasm for design have helped showcase the Fund for Women to many new founders and the greater community.

Through collective philanthropy, the Fund for Women invests and advocates to empower women and girls in Delaware to achieve their potential by bringing together members’ knowledge and passion. It was established in 1993 as an endowment at the Delaware Community Foundation and since then, the FFW has issued more than $3.2 million in grants to hundreds of nonprofit programs statewide.
